England Vs Ghana

On Tuesday I experienced the best day of the year so far, it was one that would never be forgotten. My friends and I took a trip to what felt like Accra but was really Wembley Stadium to watch a friendly match  between England & Ghana.
Now I have been to many football matches in the past both league matches and international matches but I have never experienced anything like this, the whole atmosphere was amazing from start to end. It was one of those experiences where you had to actually be there to understand what I'm talking about.

Enroute to the Stadium
21,000 Ghanaian fans came out to support the Black Stars as they took on the Lions and they made sure that both the England team and supporters felt and heard their presence both inside and outside the stadium with non-stop dancing, singing and celebrating.

The atmosphere outside the stadium before the match was just a small glimpse of what was to come once we entered the stadium. Coming out of the tunnel to go find our seats was a breath taking moment as we saw thousands of fans waving their flags and cheering for Ghana. Even on the England side you could spot some Ghanaian flags.

Both sides played well during the first half with England taking control and Andy Carolll scoring near the end of the first half making the score 1- 0 at half time.
Despite Ghana not yet scoring when half time had approached it did not dampen the mood of the Ghanaian supporters, people kept on waving their flags, Cheering and chanting the two most popular songs on the night "A A A AWAY!!" (This one was very popular when England was about to score) and everyone favourite chant of the night "We Shall Score Yooou, We Shall Put: PEPPER in Your Eyes!"

Asamoah Gyan  aka Baby Jet
During the second half Ghana came back with a lot more speed and determination taking control of the game from England with many chances to score but it was not until 91mins into the match that we all finally got to see what we had been patiently waiting for, Asamoah Gyan scoring the equalizer.. The way the stadium erupted in celebration was different, all I remember doing was screaming "I told you, I told you" and jumping up and down like mad, hugging people around me. To be honest I didn't even remember hearing the final whistle blow because I was so busy screaming for joy. That goal definitely made up for when Gyan missed during the world cup but it also reminded me once again that "This is Football, Anything Can Happen!!!"

I thought the celebrations inside the stadium was mad but outside was like Ghana had taken over Notting Hill Carnival and was celebrating winning the world cup. Outside was epic with fans in high spirits dancing and following various groups of people playing their drums and trumpets. I don't even know what would have happened if there was a DJ playing hip-life..

This Pic was all over BBM - Unity!
One thing I loved about the night was the Unity, not just the Unity within the Ghanaian community and during the match when Ghana was losing but the fact that people from a range of different countries and races was there celebrating and cheering for Ghana.

The night was without doubt one for the history books and I'm proud I was able to see Gyan's historical goal. I read somewhere that he was upset that he could not celebrate his goal by doing his dance, but at least we got to see it after the match and I'm sure thousands of the fans was doing it on his behalf when he scored.

Enjoy a small portion of the photos and the video footage that I took and also found on YouTube would be up later on. A special shout out to the people I went with and celebrated you all made the experience even better but WELL DONE GHANA!!!

Video of the Week: Wretch 32 ft Alex Mills - Anniversary (Fall In Love Again)

Quote of the Week: The Victor

If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you like to win but think you can’t,
It’s almost a cinch you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost.
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will.
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are out classed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of your-self before
You can ever win the prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.

Quote of the Week

Tuesday 8th March 2011 was International Women's Day. A global day which celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. For example, Mother Teresa, Ayn Rand, Oprah Winfrey, Anne Frank and Aung San Suu Kyi are all examples of women who have led an exemplary life but had to make difficult choices and still endured.

This week, I'm dedicating my quote of the week to one of these women.

"Do not wait for leaders;
do it alone, person to person."

History Time: Happy 54th Independence Day Ghana

The Gold Coast was a British colony on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa that became the independent nation of Ghana (which means Warrior King) in 1957. Becoming the first African country to gain independence.  Happy Independence to all my Ghanaians!

"The Independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up to the total liberation of Afrcia" - Dr Kwame Nkrumah (6th March, 1957)

Work Hard, Play Harder!!!!

WOW, 1st March already! Time aint waiting for no man... "So how was February for you guys, anything exciting happen?"
For me, February was a busy but good month. I had the chance to attend some networking events and meet some inspiring people. I also put on my 1st major event of the year, a 3 day conference called "Winterfest". It took a lot of hard work, dedication and tons of deep breaths but seeing the final result of the event and hearing the feedback from people made all that stress worth it. I also finally started to work & make progress on a project I was meant to start 2 months ago.
Despite the busy month, I did manage to have one or two days of fun. One of those days included attending the "Benjart B'day / Thank You Party" at Bungalow 8. The night was exactly what I needed and it was good to let my hair down after a stressful few days. Shout out to Benjart for a great night!!! If you have not heard of Benjart then check out the website (www.benjartclothing.com) to learn more about the brand and also see pictures from the event.
Attending the party made me realise that since the start of the year, I have been spending a lot of time working and not really dedicating enough time to doing things I like to do, so I have officially declared March - "The Month of Fun!!!!"
I plan to catch up with some friends, attend a few events and overall just have a good time whilst still making sure I achieve my goals for this month. Hopefully it would also help my creativity and give me some new fresh ideas for my projects.
So this month, you can be guaranteed to catch me at these two events for sure:
Skepta Concert (22nd March 2011) - www.doinitagain.co.uk
England vs Ghana Match (29th March 2011) - www.ticketmania.co.uk
Plus a few other places… I will make sure that I blog the pictures for you guys to see..
Have a great month and don't forget to have some FUN!!!
